This article tells the story of three vulnerable individuals: Paul Rivers, a critically ill mathematician, who marries Emilia, an English immigrant without love; Christina Peck, a middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two girls; and Jack Jordan, a former convict who finds that his faith in Christianity has the power to support his family. They are brought together by a violent accident that will change their lives. In the end, no one is like them will learn harsh truths about love, faith, bravery, desire, and guilt, and opportunities to change our world that can never be fixed—forever.
